Don’t know what to get the person who has everything or looking for a gift that benefits others? Below are links for great organizations helping others and the world, in no particular order….. (this is re-post from last year)
Ocean Girl Project LOVES SURFAID!
In 1999, physician and surfer Dr Dave Jenkins went on a surf charter to the Mentawai Islands with one goal in mind: to find perfect waves.
The surf proved to be everything he hoped for but he also found the Mentawai people, mostly women and children, suffering and dying from the ravages of malaria and other preventable diseases.
Dave found that he was unable to just walk away. It was a defining life moment. He sought support from long-time friend Dr Steve Hathaway, an epidemiologist, and in January 2000 they co-founded SurfAid International, a non-profit organization dedicated to the alleviation of human suffering through community-based health programs. www.surfaid.org
Thousands of children and adults of all ages, schools, organizations, individuals, from all nations contributed origami whales to raise awareness to the numbers that have been killed, as well as a call to action with the need to halt further slaughter of these amazing Beings.
As the whaling continues, 2,000 Origami Whales are added each year to reflect the most recent estimate of whales lost since 1986. Mahalo Peggy for all that you DO! http://www.origamiwhalesproject.org/
The M2M Story
Mountain2Mountain was founded in November 2006 by Shannon Galpin. Inspired by becoming a mother, Shannon took action on her deep conviction that all women and girls deserve the same rights and opportunities as her own daughter.
Mountain2Mountain doesn’t just build brick and mortar structures without supporting their long-term viability. We don’t train women and girls only to leave them where they started with a few new skills. We seek sustainable progress on human rights, gender equity and the economic vitality of communities on the fringe. M2M Mission
BeadforLife eradicates extreme poverty by creating bridges of understanding between impoverished Africans and concerned world citizens. Ugandan women turn colorful recycled paper into beautiful beads. Women in Northern Uganda gather shea nuts and press them into shea butter for cosmetics and soaps. And people who care open their hearts, homes and communities to buy and sell both products.
The beads and shea butter become income, food, medicine, school fees and hope. It is a small miracle that enriches us all. We have these beads for sale in Hawaii thru December 2010 if you are interested please write colleen@oceangirlproject.com
AccesSurf empowers people with disabilities by providing adaptive surfing instruction and therapeutic educational programs on water recreation and enriches lives by assisting families to access the beach and ocean in a barrier free environment.
Surfers Healing is operated on a shoe string budget. Sometimes when we are low on gear our volunteers buy their own special boards for the camp to make the day that much more enjoyable for the kids. (Our volunteers are the greatest!)
Surfers Healing provides a remarkable day to kids that are in a difficult position. Please join us by making a donation through our secure server. We are a public, nonprofit organization with 501(c)(3) status.
Every year since 2008 we have put on summer time ocean and surf camps for girls in our community. We offer scholarships to local disadvantaged girls and Ocean Girl camps are run primarily by volunteers using donated surf equipment. We are truly grateful for outpouring of support, love of our community and want to acknowledge the generous gift of our awesome volunteers, we could not offer any of this in Hawaii without you, MAHALO!

Ocean Girl Project is a community gift and effort, we are grateful for all of the wonderful support. Mahalo!!
Safe and healthy holidays to all!
